The Rotary Club of Lions, based in San Pedro Sula and through their ophthalmologic Hospital conducted a brigade in the PAHS’ Campus to serve more than one hundred people, most of them elderly people who receive a test and lenses at a very low cost. Our children and youth also received attention, and some of them got their first pair of glasses. We thank the young Rotarians for their willingness and cooperation in our efforts to bring health to the needy.

“We are pleased to have spent this week with you here in Honduras, helping all our brothers and sisters who needed medical attention”, this were the words of Karen Morris, leader of the medical group – missionary of San Marcos, Texas, that every year comes to visit and help our institution. They bring with them healing and treatment for all those people who do not have the economic resources to visit a doctor. During for four days, approximately more than two thousand people of different communities in the department of Cortes, Honduras, had the opportunity to receive gratuitous medical attention, thanks to the collaboration and the arduous effort of more than 25 doctors and nurses, who with the aid of Karen Morris, arrived at PAHS with the unique intention of being able to provide medical visits and medicines for their neighbors in Honduras. “There is no better reward than the smiles of little children or the hugs of an ancient, when they receive the help that we brought to them. We are so glad to share our time with these people”, said Gaby Arriaga, one of the nurses group.

Only the first day, this beautiful group managed to take care of more than seven hundred people, everything a record in the institution, hundreds of people made enormous rows to receive the provided aid for them. The San Marcos’s group decided to divide their group in two teams, to serve many more communities, with four doctors in each team they managed to take care of around three hundred thousand people, there were a lot of patients that they had to buy more medicines in the local market. In Pan-American Health Service, everyone feel extremely thankful by the aid received, not only for our institution but also towards our compatriots. God bless to each member of San Marcos’s Hospital, Texas, thanks for your invaluable aid!

  • Taulabe, San Antonio, Peña Blanca and Santa Barbara, were some of the communities where the San Marcos´s group offered medical attention and medicines.

Dr. Winston Craig and the students of the Nutrition Department from Andrews University in Michigan gave us nightly presentations about caring for our bodies and getting proper nourishment.  Some of the students helped with menu planning.  The group also visited several child-feeding centers in surrounding communities.  The centers provide valuable nutritional support to poor parents by serving one or two meals a day to toddlers of poor families.

Rod Ward from Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada brought a medical group to serve our community. They held field clinics in area towns with the help of our campus nurses Suyapa and Lucita. Members of the group also made repairs to the swing set they had put up several years ago, making it stronger to withstand the “industrial” use it received daily.

A group from the Chattanooga, Tennessee Presbyterian Church led by Dr. Carolyn Brannon brought an offering, willing hands, and loving hearts to our campus; their principal project was to continue the new Dining Hall that Campion Academy started in March. They put up metal forms, mixed cement, and wheeled it over to be poured into the forms. Dr. Carolyn led a very special evening for 30 women who contribute TLC – tender loving care — to the children on our campus. The group provided a beautifully laid-out, delicious, candle-lit meal near the edge of Lake Yojoa. The ladies were then ministered to with tributes and thoughtful gifts: spiritual journals, personal care items and a Bible. The evening closed with songs and a prayer circle in which everyone participated. The special Spirit that was present made it hard to leave.

Dr. Marilyn Augustine and Dr. Karen Hutchinson Internal Medicine Residents of the University of Rochester spent time getting acquainted with the healthcare delivery system in our area of Honduras; their rotation included time in the PAHS’ nutritional rehab and outpatient clinic, the community Health Center, assisting with a field clinic and nutritional health assessments and a tour of the government hospital in San Pedro Sula.
